Tankerton FC’s pan-disability team is off to a flying start in The Kent Disability League
It was a memorable occasion for F.A. Community Club, Tankerton F.C., as a team from their Pan-Disabilities group took part in the Kent Disability Football League for the very first time on Sunday in Faversham.
The Tankerton Pan-Disability team, created by Co-manager, Vanessa Oakes, and coached by the team from Inclusive Sport, have been in training for many months in preparation for joining the KDFL this season, and they made a fantastic impact.
Unbeaten in winning 3 small-sided games and drawing against the league champions from last year, was a superb debut for a side taking on teams including experienced league members, Charlton Athletic and Maidstone United.
The fitness, desire and work ethic of the team were evident from the start as they saw off Charlton Upbeats 8-1, with goals from captain for the day Liam Sanderson (the first after only 3 seconds), Edward Wright, Gary Short and Henry Carter.
Next was a 3-0 victory over Maidstone United, featuring goals from Henry Carter and Joe Hunisett.
A tight 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic followed, featuring superb performances by goalkeeper Mark Bowman and defenders Alfie Brian–Gibbons and Dayle Brown, and 2 further goals from Joe Hunisett.
A 3-0 win over Maidstone United Raiders wrapped up the event, with goals from Henry Carter, Joe Hunisett and Liam Sanderson.
The team’s sportsmanship and discipline were a credit to the Club. Co-manager, Richard Wright, addressing the group said “you were all brilliant and you should be proud of your achievements today.“
The group now await news on which ability division they will join, for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
