STATEMENT FROM TANKERTON F.C.
TIM SELLS (1978 – 2025)

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that our former Head Coach, Tim Sells, passed away on Wednesday. Tim gave everything to our Club, from managing our Vets team in 2015 to leading us to Kent County Cup success and to running our development sessions – he was at the heart of so many parts of our journey. He served on our Executive Committee, mentored students from Canterbury Christ Church University, organised futsal programmes and summer schools and coached numerous teams. Above all, he inspired players and coaches alike to get involved in grassroots football.
We all like to think we know football but, when you spoke to Tim, you realised just how deep the game goes – and how much knowledge and passion he carried. A UEFA B Licence coach, he had worked with Gillingham, Crystal Palace and Millwall and served as a mentor with the Kent F.A., helping clubs and coaches across the county. He was simply brilliant.
For Tim, it was never about personal recognition or silverware. His goal was always to help young players fall in love with football, enjoy the game and give them a chance to progress into the professional or semi-professional game. Through his work, he achieved this many times over. Tim was always there to support others – offering advice over the phone, stepping in to run sessions for coaches or leading futsal programmes to share his expertise. His generosity and commitment left a mark on everyone he worked with.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Tim’s family and friends during this very difficult time. If any players, former players, coaches, family or friends need support, please contact the Club at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Already, we have received an outpouring of messages from coaches sharing inspirational stories and memories of Tim. We will do our best to pass these on to his family.
Rest in peace, Tim. You will be deeply missed mate.
