Tankerton F.C. host Pre-Season Tournament
A beautifully sunny day helped to make Tankerton F.C.’s second annual, pre-season tournament a great success at Seaview on Sunday.
The day started at 10.00 with one of our U11s boys’ teams, Tankerton Colts, playing in a four-way competition with visiting teams from Woodnesborough, Sturry Kings and Tyler Hill. Tankerton Colts and Tyler Hill both won their opening two games against both Woodnesborough and Sturry Kings, so it was all very tense when they met each other in what proved to be the decider. A very close match ended in a 1-0 victory for Tankerton Colts and saw them take the trophy as competition winners.
Kicking off at 10.30, the Club’s three Seniors (Under 17s and Under 18s) teams (Tankerton, Tankerton Youth and Tankerton Colts) were joined by teams from Hawkinge, Deal Town and Dover Rangers for a six-team, “round-robin” competition played on the two 11-a-side pitches. The competition was won by Dover Rangers who won three and drew two of their matches.
Our Ladies’ team, “Females Who Football” had a 6-a-side, afternoon tournament played on the two mini-soccer pitches. We welcomed Maidstone Magpies, Crawley Old Girls, Hawkinge Foxes, Thanet Ladies Vets and two teams from Canterbury Old Bags. Thanet Ladies Vets beat Canterbury Old Bags (Purple) 1-0 in the first semi-final while, in the second, Females Who Football went through on penalties after a 1-1- draw with Maidstone Magpies. A tense final saw Thanet Ladies Vets beat Females Who Football with the only goal of the match.
Finishing off the day was a pre-season warm-up match between our Under 14s and Under 15s girls’ teams, with the older team emerging 3-0 winners.
The day raised £1,000 towards Club funds.
Tankerton F.C. would like to thank the following for all of their hard work in making the day such a resounding success:
- All of the referees who helped out through the day, running around for so long in such hot conditions.
- The parents and other volunteers who helped run the barbecue and drinks stall, oversaw the smooth running of the car park field and acted as linesmen for the day.
- The coaches and other volunteers who set everything up ahead of the event and were involved in the clearing up operation afterwards.
Finally, a massive thank you as always to the Club’s sponsors, particularly to the following who supported this particular event:
